About

Uniting Seattle Through Inclusive Hockey

Seattle Sea Otters is an inclusive ice hockey program designed for athletes of all abilities. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to experience the excitement of hockey in a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment. Whether it’s your first time on the ice or you’re returning after years away, our mission is to make sure every player feels like part of the team.

Our league is proud to be a member of the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA), offering adaptive hockey opportunities to individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities. We focus on fun, friendship, confidence-building, and teamwork on and off the ice.

How We Support Diverse Needs

Creating a positive experience for all players is at the heart of what we do. Here’s how we ensure our program meets the unique needs of each participant:

Flexible Format

Our sessions use a relaxed, station-based approach so players can participate at their own pace, whether skating independently or with support.

Sensory-Friendly Space

We limit buzzers and whistles, offer quiet zones, and train volunteers to support sensory needs with care and flexibility.

Adapted Gear Options

From bike helmets to sleds and walkers, we work with families to find gear that fits each player’s comfort and mobility.

One-on-One Buddies

Volunteers are available to support players on or off the ice with balance, guidance, and encouragement.

Visual Routines

Clear visuals and predictable routines help reduce anxiety and keep players confident and engaged.
